Seniors Round 8: Eltham Redbacks 0 - 2 Beaumaris

Eltham Redbacks 0 - 2 Beaumaris

Beauy gate crashed the Eltham party under lights last Friday night with a 2-0 away win to get the season back on track after a couple of close defeats to table-topping Mornington and Malvern.

Eltham has been in a process of demolition and rebuilding of their clubrooms since our last meeting with them in late 2019. The day had arrived on Friday last for the formal opening of their new rooms, and who better than Club President Joe Mottolla to crash the formal opening!

With FV representatives and Victory legend, Archie Thompson on hand, the Prez was able to share in the pride of Eltham in displaying their new facility.

The game was destined to be a tough one with a raucous crowd behind the home side plus a 6 game unbeaten start for Eltham. Beauy started very well and deservedly took the lead on 6 minutes when after a left-wing attack, the ball fell to skipper, Keegan Ziada who finished well from 15metres into the bottom corner. After a further period when Beauy could have scored again, Eltham wrestled back some control and had good possession. Some great defending from a new central defensive pairing of Sam Mack and Frannie Antonino stood strong and well assisted by Jarrod Hill between the sticks and wingbacks Luca Bozzo and Steph Moutsopoulos, kept Eltham at bay.

In the second half more solid defending was needed, but Beauy always looked dangerous on the break, and as Eltham pushed forward, Gianni Allebi, release George Smethurst in the 89th minute to sweep home the second.

Huge celebrations followed as Beauy grabbed their second win of the season.
