Match Report: Beaumaris SC 2-0 Boroondara

George Smethurst was the match winner for Beauy in their second consecutive NPL win last weekend. Goals in the 5th and 30th minutes were enough to beat an Eagles side also promoted from State League last season.

It was a great day at Beauy Reserve, with a good size crowd gathering to watch the first NPL game at home in Beauy’s history. A number of Club sponsors, including Pete Stewart of Pete Stewart Projects and Andrew Jones of JJ Carpets were on hand in beautiful conditions. The game started with end to end activity before Smethurst picked the ball up on the right flank and drifted a cross/cum shot over the Eagles keeper for the first goal. George’s grin afterwards suggested that it may not have been a deliberate strike, but they all count!

Beauy pressed forward, whilst also shackling Eagles captain and playmaker Alex Meaney, with great work from Luca Pizzarini, and Zach Lemke in the middle of the park keeping him quiet in the main. Smethurst’s second came on the half hour when Beauy won the ball back high up the pitch and a nice reverse ball from Ryan Brown found Smethurst who drilled into the bottom corner.

The second half was again relatively even, but Beauy keeper Jarrod Hill was rarely threatened with the Eagles ending sending a series of high balls into the box well defended by Sam O Regan and Jordan Siamoa in central defence.

A great win on a great day for the Club!

Our U21 team grabbed their first points of the season with a draw against Boorandara coming from behind. A nice header from Alex Abernethy was our first goal in the competition.
