Lighting upgrades at Beaumaris Reserve

Updated: Mar 5

After years of lobbying, Bayside Council have announced that they are upgrading the lighting at Beaumaris Reserve to improve sustainability and usability for community sport. This essential upgrade will replace outdated halide fittings with modern, energy-efficient LED lights that meet current standards for night matches. The new LED luminaires will increase the brightness (lux levels) on the sportsgrounds, providing better lighting for players and spectators. While the brightness on the sportsgrounds will increase, the LED lights are designed to minimise light spill into neighbouring areas, reducing the impact on residential amenity.

The key feature of the works are

  • Replacing outdated halide fittings with energy-efficient LED lights (15 at Moorabbin West Reserve and eight at Beaumaris Reserve)

  • Installing new cabling and modifying existing infrastructure to support the upgraded system.

  • Testing the new system to ensure safety and performance.

The works will begin in February 2025 and take up to three weeks. They will take place between 7am and 4pm weekdays.

BSC is continuing to lobby for the replacement of the 3 small poles which do not allow for effective dispersal of light as the height of the poles is too low. The cost of replacement will not be covered by Council and BSC will seeking state government support to do so prior to the next State government election.
