Match Report: Beaumaris SC 2-2 Ballarat City

A drama filled day at Beauy Reserve saw Beauy drop two points after being held to a draw by Ballarat City in the NPL3 Rd 5 clash last weekend.

With captain, Sam O’Regan, Luca Pizzirani, and Felix Polster unavailable, coach David Gibson was required to make some changes for this clash with Beauy unbeaten since their Rd 1 loss to Melbourne Victory.

Beauy dominated early and should have made the most of their opportunities, but eventually took the lead when a cross from Hamraz Zenoozi was bundled in by Akshant ‘AK’ Singh for his first goal of the season after 21 minutes. Ballarat fought back and quickly equalised, before Singh was brought down in the box and stepped up to take the penalty to restore the lead after 33 minutes.

Haltime was 2-1 to Beaumaris.

The weather deteriorated as the second half started with squally wind and rain coming across the ground. A red card for Ryan Brown after 58 minutes meant 30+ minutes with 10 men for Beauy but they defended stoutly , until this situation was exacerbated when goal hero Singh mistimed a tackle in midfield on 82 minutes and having been already yellow carded only six minutes earlier, was also sent off leaving Beauy with nine men for the last 8 minutes plus time on.

With defenders, Jason Dunphy, Sam Mack, Jordan Siamoa, Allan Sheehan and Will Ellis covering keeper Jarrod Hill , and Zach Lemke, Ben Lund and ‘ Shima’ Shimazaki running and closing down at every opportunity it looked as if Beauy would hang on for the three points, but a last gasp far post header salvaged a point for Ballarat.

U21 also drew 2-2 to grab their second point of the season.
