Beaumaris acknowledged NAIDOC week celebrations wearing the specially designed kit for their game last weekend and after a lacklustre June period, were able to move out of the relegation zone with a three-one win over Royals who are also looking to avoid those bottom two positions.
In windy, but dry conditions, the game was always going to be unusual with the cold westerly running down the ground from the pavilion end. Royals played with the wind in the first half but did not make the most of any advantage, although Fraser Maclaren in the Beauy goal was called on to make a smart one-one save when a Royals striker broke through. Royals did however take the lead just before the break when a defensive error allowed the Essendon striker to run on and place the ball in the net past Maclaren.
In the second half Beauy pressed forward and eventually were able to break through when Alan Sheehan headed home after a corner from Jason Dunphy. Beauy pushed again and Will Ellis was able to follow up from a mix up in the Royals defence to score on 86 minutes.
The icing on the cake came in added time, when substitute Johnny Creamer capitalised on great work from Ryan Brown in pressing the Royals keeper into a mistake, and scored a third.
Reserves battled hard but went down to Royals.
Next week is a Friday night clash at Wembley Park against Box Hill in another vital game to ensure retention of NPL3 status
