Match Report: Beaumaris 2-1 Geelong

After a trio of losses, Beauy returned to winning ways against Geelong in NPL3 last weekend. As the competition reached the half way mark, and all teams now played, Beauy have 14 points from 11 games, and looking forward to a home game against Melbourne Victory next week (3 June).

Geelong were just below Beauy on the ladder at start of play and the home team made a positive start with attacking forays down each flank, before being undone , by what ,on second viewing ( via our new Veo match recorder!) ,was an imaginative and well executed piece of play by the Geelong Number 2. Picking a cross field pass after a free kick, the Geelong player was 10m inside his own half and noticed Beauy keeper Jarrod Hill off his line. He struck a thunderous shot which looped into the top corner with the scrambling Hill unable to keep it out.

Geelong were unfortunate not to go two up when a left footed free kick struck the bar shortly afterwards.

Beauy gradually got back into the game and equalised via a Ryan Brown header from a Will Ellis corner, before Ellis himself forced the ball home after some good passing on the left hand side.

Beauy went into the break ahead 2-1.

The second half saw more chances for Beauy but they were unable to get the third goal that would have settled the game, and ended up having to defend strongly to keep the 3 points.

Our u21 team recorded by far their best performance and win of the season, with a 6-0 hammering of Geelong to go to 8 points at the half way point of the competition.
