Blog 19: Our man in Qatar (on TV)

History is being made.

This is the first time Australia has ever won 2 matches at any World Cup. It’s the first time the Socceroos have scored a goal in each of their 3 games at a World Cup final. All those goals have come from open play. It’s also the first time the Socceroos have kept two clean sheets at a world cup tournament (our clean sheet in vs Tunisia was Australia’s first clean sheet since we drew 0-0 with Chile in 1974).

“It shows that when you walk on the pitch and have the right mentality where it’s a war and you go out there and fight what you can achieve. I truly believe that the Socceroos are the team that unite the country”, said Graham Arnold, “If a cricket team get to the final, you don’t get scenes like tonight. You don’t see the squares like they are tonight, and not with the rugby union or rugby league either. I’m just so proud and happy. This is what World Cups are for.”

“As a young boy you dream big,” said match winner Matt Leckie “watching the Socceroos play World Cups could have been the reason I wanted to be a footballer. It’s moments like this that build the game and potentially give young kids inspiration to want to do the same.”

So, who knows – a Beauy boy or girl could be the first to lift the trophy. Dream Big!
