Seniors; Malvern City 0-1 Beaumaris
Reserves; Malvern City 1-3 Beaumaris
Beauy Men's State League squads returned to action on a windy but dry day at Kooyong Park, and came away with two wins to rectify the defeats to the same opponents earlier in the season.
The Reserves were a goal down at the break to top of the table Malvern but were assisted by a rush of blood by a Malvern midfielder halfway through the half who kicked out at a Beauy defender and was correctly shown a red card.
Although taking some time to adapt to playing against ten men, Beauy began to exert greater pressure and equalised with a sharp header from a corner, before a penalty was awarded and dispatched with ease ( see photo) and a final goal in the dying seconds gave Beauy a deserved win.
The Seniors were under the pump in the first half and owed their keeper, Jarrod Hill, who made several excellent saves to keep the home side out. In the second half, Beauy adjusted to be more positive and got their reward in the last minute when super-sub, George Smethurst cut in from the right and drilled the ball into the far side netting past ex Beauy keeper, Nathan Silver.
Cue, massive celebrations on the pitch and the bench!
Up to 5th in the table and a home game next Saturday night at Beauy Secondary against Eltham Redbacks.
