Mornington 1 - 0 Beaumaris

Seniors Mornington 1 - 0 Beaumaris

A strong and resolute performance was required after a couple of defeats in prior rounds, and that is what Beauy delivered against a table-topping Mornington, who came into the game with a 100% winning record in 2021.

With central defenders, Marinos Panayi and George Whiteoak absent due to concussion protocols( both men are well and should be available shortly), a central defensive pairing of Sam Mack and Dani Rodrigues was in place for this game.

Beauy started brightly and Ryan Brown and captain, Keegan Ziada combined for a couple of early chances before a good move saw Beauy hit the bar after 15 minutes for the best chance of the first half.

Mack and Rodrigues were holding the potent Mornington defense well and in the second half both teams had chances and a scoreless encounter was on the cards until the 87th minute when a low shot from Mornington skidded into the net to give the home side the lead.

Beauy pressed forward and Mornington were hanging on at the end as Beauy searched, unsuccessfully, for what would have been a deserved equaliser.

No points but a platform to work on for next weeks home game against second-placed Malvern City.

Reserves: Mornington 1 - 0 Beaumaris

Reserves went down 0-1 to a 10-man Mornington team, who played the second half with one player down after a red card. More to come.
