Beauy had a poor start to their second VPL/NPL season going down to a Nuna side full of energy and speed who scored two first half goals before banging in a further three after the break.
It was a warm evening, and a big pitch, but of course the same for both teams. Beauy were tentative to start and a goal down inside ten minutes. They struggled to get a foot hold but did make several incursions into the Nuna box, none more than when Sean Grella burst clear, pushed the ball round the diving keeper and appeared to most watchers to have been taken down by the keeper with an empty net to pass into.
Unfortunately Grella was adjudged by the referee to have fallen over and no foul was given! VAR is yet to make an appearance in VPL 2.
Nuna scored from a free kick into the corner just before halftime to go in with a two goal cushion.
The second stanza saw Beauy under the cosh for the first 25 minutes , conceding 3 x goals, before some attacking efforts had shots on goal and a couple of chances, but were unable to beat the Nuna keeper.
David Gibson and his coaching team will want to bounce back next weekend.
Next week at Pascoe Vale again on Friday night , see website for details.
U23 season started on Saturday morning due to the hot weather conditions forecast. Details to follow next week.
