Beauy grabbed what could be a vital 95th minute winner in St Albans on Saturday, as they battle to stay in NPL3 for the 2024 season.
On what was a windy but dry afternoon at NSE, the game ebbed and flowed in the first half with chances at both ends, before Johnny Creamer latched onto a ball from Ryan Brown to drive home in the 43rd minute to give Beauy the lead at the break.
With Essendon Royals having won the previous evening, the onus was on our team to get a similar 3 points and stay in control of their destiny in the league.
Play maker ‘A .K’ Singh went off early in the second half with a knee injury and was replaced by Felix Polster in an attacking move by coach Gibson. The game again was end to end but Beauy were undone in the 63rd minute when losing the ball in the middle of the park saw a swift transition from NSE and their striker brought down in the box as he bore in on goal. The penalty was dispatched.
Beuay continued to push forward, but NSE were dangerous on the counter and had a couple of opportunities and good work by keeper Fraser Maclaren on a number of occasions kept his team in it.
At the other end chances went begging and the woodwork saved NSE, before as the time ticked down, George Smethurst raced down the right flank and drilled in a low cross met by Polster whose close range effort beat the keeper to give Beauy the lead with 95 minutes gone.
The team held out for a famous win and with two games to go are well set for the break with next game the final home fixture at Reserve Rd for 2023
