Match Report: Box Hill 1-0 Beaumaris

Beauy went down to a last gap and controversial 94th minute spot kick at Box Hill last Friday night to ensure a tight end to the season if retention of NPL3 status for 2024 is to be obtained.

On a windy evening, although effort could not be faulted , the game itself was not memorable with only limited moments of quality from either side suggesting that a goal was going to be unlikely.

Beauy did have a great opportunity midway through the second half when the ball bobbled around the Box Hill 6 x yard box , after great work by Ryan Brown, but just could not be forced home.

Drama in the 94th minute when a Box Hill attacker broke away down the right and Beauy keeper Fraser Maclaren came out and pushed the ball away for a corner, whilst also colliding with the Box Hill player. The referee gave a corner , but after protests from the Box Hill team, consulted the assistant referee and changed his mind and gave a spot kick! The ball was drilled into the top corner and although Beauy forced their way down to the opposing goal mouth again there was no time to conjure an equaliser.

Video footage later suggested the referee may have been right in his original decision!

With four games and 12 points to play for , the outcome of the season is still in Beauy’s hands with two home and two away games to come.

Next week vs Caroline Springs GC at home.
