Blog 15: Our man in Qatar

“You have to realise where you are. You want to play beautiful football, but you’ve got to win games.” So said defender Milos Degenek. And we did. Our third ever win at a World Cup final.

The lads put a tremendous shift in and were clearly goosed by the end of the game. A superb header from Mitchell Duke. Harry Souttar and Mat Ryan were enormous. Khenissi thought he was away when Kenny Rowles lost his footing but as he sprinted towards Australia’s goal, Souttar came surging across to make the a thundering challenge. What a tackle Harry!

The second half was tough – credit to the Tunisians who gave their all, with 35,000 supporters making a big noise in the stadium. Leckie nearly silenced them. The green and gold sang the hearts out.

Elsewhere, Messi saves Argentina again. A 2-0-win vs Mexico means they must beat Poland in the final game to go through

And Mbappé, 23 years old, scores twice reaching 30 goals for France. He is some item, his power, technique and dazzling speed - the hottest thing in Qatar — and that is saying something!
