Beaumaris 1-2 Upfield (after extra time)

Beauy went out of the FFA/Australia Cup after a nail-biting game against unbeaten, Stage League 2 NW leaders, Upfield.

The visitors were welcomed by a sizeable contingent of Beauy mascots, and support, whilst bringing their own fans on the back of a win against Mill Park at the weekend.

Upfield started very quickly and

Beauy had to stand firm against a wave of speedy attacks from what was clearly a highly technical and proficient team. As the half progressed, Beauy came back into the game and had a couple of chances, but the teams went in level at the break.

No goals.

The second half started with, again, Upfield on the front foot and eventually, they took the lead after a slick move down the left ended with a smart finish past Jarrod Hill in the Beauy goal.

Again, Beauy fought hard and were rewarded when Ryan Brown broke away down the left and was felled in the box by the onrushing keeper.

Stand-in captain, Sam O’ Regan, stepped up and had his spot-kick saved, but young substitute Tom Collaci knocked in the rebound to get scores level.

Upfield tired as the half went on and Beauy were pressing for a winner, but the visitors held on to set up extra time.

Both teams slugged it out in the extra periods with tired legs all round and chances at both ends, but the home crowd were silenced when the visitors scored again.

Beauy pressed forward but was unable to get an equaliser and departed the Cup

Home again on Saturday against Casey Comets at Beauy Secondary with Reserves KO at 4.30 pm and Seniors at 7 pm
