2021 Season Cancelled - Update from Club President

Updated: Sep 7, 2021

Dear players, parents, coaches, and volunteers,

Football Victoria has announced that due to the lockdown extension through September, and with no guaranteed timeframe for a safe return, they must cancel the remainder of Season 2021 for all metropolitan Melbourne competitions. A copy of this communication can be read here Football Victoria Announcement

Whilst not unexpected it is with genuine sadness that we once again find ourselves in the situation of seeing our sporting lives impacted by the pandemic. At the same time I want to acknowledge the incredible work undertaken by your Committee, coaches and all volunteers in making training and games happen in increasingly difficult circumstances. Whilst the announcement is hugely disappointing, I thank everyone who participated in playing football in what has been another incredibly difficult season.

2021 Fees

We are to be advised by Football Victoria on 17 September of the possible fee relief packages that they may adopt across the various competitions. Once this information is received by us we will communicate it as soon a practically possible what fee compensation is possible for members.

It is important to know that whilst the season was not completed most of our expenditure is incurred prior to and at the beginning of the season – FV registration fees, team entry, insurance, Council rents for our pitches and MCC ground hire costs, team kit, utilities, administration, coaching and equipment. These costs for the 2021 season have been spent to get the season started.

Returning to Football

We know many of you were looking forward to the resumption of football and we are very conscious of the value our game contributes to the mental and physical well-being of players and their families. I want to assure you we are now looking ahead and subject to facility access planning is underway to provide late spring and summer options for our members at the MCC facilities at Reserve Road Beaumaris ahead of the 2022 Season. Our Directors of Football are working hard to lock in all our coaches for teams for the 2022 season. Details will be provided once we have clarity on further state government restrictions and we will communicate with you using our website and via email as to what is available.

On behalf of everyone at BSC and your Committee I thank you for your support, understanding and patience. It has been another extraordinary and ultimately disappointing year after great hopes that we would not see a repeat of 2020. We hope to be playing again in the coming months so until then stay safe.

Go Beauy!
