Round 17 (vs Seaford)
Beaumaris travelled away
to Seaford for the 2nd time this season after the
Beaumaris committee decided it was a better option to play on
Seaford's wider & larger pitch than at home on what has become a
deteriorating pitch. The team was confident after playing well
against the U/21 Kingston side in mid week and being on a good run
of 6 games undefeated. The Beauy line up changed slightly compared
to the team which lined up against Brighton in the previous round
with Erdem starting in the left back position and Nick making a
return to the seniors playing at right back and both Winny and Tom
were the unlucky ones to miss out starting on the bench. David
"Jacko"
Jackson was looking to
impress again after an excellent run of form lately and scoring both
goals against
Brighton in Round 16.
The pitch itself was not
as in as good condition as earlier in the season which led to a
quite a scrappy match and direct football being played. Players from
both sides were physical from the outset going in hard for the ball
and not taking a backward step and the referee allowed some poor
tackles go unpunished from the start of the match. It was evident
how much was riding on this match with desperation shown on many
occasions and a decent number of people also turning up to watch the
game. Johnno was once again excellent in the centre of midfield for
Beauy with right back Nick also impressing on his return. Seaford
did have the early initiative but we denied taking the lead first by
an excellent one on one save by
Tyler
, then by a goal line
clearance and with their best chance of the match their small
striker scuffed his shot wide of the target. This spurred Beauy into
action and then they enjoyed a good 25 minute period before half
time. Jacko had a great opportunity to put Beauy ahead but struck
his shot straight at the keeper when clean through on goal. However,
he soon made up for it with an exquisite chip over the oncoming
Seaford keeper to put Beaumaris 1-0
up at the break. At half time the players were quite relaxed and
felt in control of the match after the good period before half
time.
In the 2nd
half Beaumaris started very well and started to play some flowing
attractive football. The defence was also holding firm when Seaford
did counter attack with centre back Wayne in particular having a
great match with some excellent tackles made. Goal keeper Tyler also
showed plenty of heart in goal for Beauy making some fantastic saves
in arguably a man of the match performance. One in particular was a
memorable save with the
Seaford
striker being through on goal he charged out and made a brilliant
block with his body. His handling of the ball was also clean often
hanging on to the ball after making a full length dive and not
allowing the striker an opportunity to put away the rebound. Fresh
legs were introduced into the 2nd half with Gibbo, Winny
and Tom all coming on and all three making an impact. With 25
minutes to go Jacko just about made the game safe scoring direct
from a dangerous curling free kick which the
Seaford keeper could not see or get a hand to
due to many bodies in front of him as it went past him and into the
back of the net. Beauy ran the game out quite well and the decision
to play this game away was justified with Beaumaris winning this
important match 2-0. The club song was sung with passion by both the
players and supporters after the match on the pitch. Beauy now play
4th placed
Dandenong
City
in Round 18 which is yet
another crucial match.
Round 15 (vs Noble Park)
Beaumaris was away to
Noble
Park
in Round
15 hoping to string their 3rd win in a row after good
wins against top sides Old Carey and Bayside. The pitch at Norman
Luth Reserve was one of the better ones seen this year although it
was an extremely cold day with an extra long warm up required before
the match! It was one of the rare occasions this season where the
starting XI for Beaumaris was the same as the previous week which
definitely helped their cause and reportedly
Noble
Park
were
missing 4 regular players for this match. Beaumaris came out in a
very determined fashion and took control of the match right from the
outset.
Captain Ross Iles was
leading the charge having a sensational first half causing the Noble
Park defence lots of headaches with his persistence, tackling and
excellent work rate. The other players also displayed the same
attitude and the defence was rock solid once again with the
Noble
Park
strikers
not causing too many problems for the defence in the 1st
half. In the first 20-25 minutes Beauy created many excellent
opportunities but unfortunately what was missing was the final
product. Often good lead up work would be done by the likes of Ross
and Gibbo in midfield or Winny and Michael on the wings but the
flowing moves were not being finished which proved quite
frustrating. However just as it was looking like it could be one of
those days Degsy controlled the ball well in the penalty area and
had his shirt blatantly pulled right in front of the referee who
pointed to the spot. Up stepped top goal scorer Daniel who
dispatched his 9th goal of the season with a well taken
penalty low to the keeper's left. Shortly before half time the usual
sub of Marcus for Degsy took place. It was only 1-0 at the break
despite Beaumaris dominating the half, however there was calm at
half time as Beauy was well in control and the goal seemed to calm
some nerves.
In the 2nd
half Beauy once again came out very well and in fact their passing
game seemed to improve throughout the match. An excellent move down
the right wing resulted in an accurate cross being sent in to Daniel
who headed in a rare header under pressure! He was obviously
delighted with this goal as it's an aspect of his game he's worked
on and it gave Beauy a comfortable 2-0 lead. Nonetheless Beaumaris
did not stop here as they were aware that
Noble
Park is capable of scoring quick goals
especially with Andrija being a threat for
Noble
Park
. It was
he, in fact, who nearly brought
Noble
Park
back in the match but he
was denied twice by Tyler who made brilliant saves after being a
spectator for most of the match with one being a one on one save.
After this brief lapse
in concentration Beaumaris once again took charge with Ross securing
all 3 points with an excellent volley from close range despite
slipping at the same time as hitting the ball into the roof of the
net. Beauy relaxed from here and played some excellent football with
Erdem and Tom being introduced to the game and playing very well
during the 2nd half with goal scorers Daniel and Ross
both being rested. It was Erdem who put the icing on the cake after
being hauled down by the opposition keeper. He took the resulting
penalty and had no problems putting it away in the bottom right hand
corner with his trusty left foot. At the end of the match there was
one final highlight with
Tyler
making the best save of the
match once again denying big striker Andrija with a diving save to
his left, finger tipping the ball around the post spectacularly. 4-0
was a fitting result and reflected a very good performance by
Beaumaris who now look forward to hopefully continuing the good form
against
Brighton next
week.
Round 14 (vs Bayside)
Beaumaris was up against
another team vying for promotion in Round 14. This time it was
against Bayside (who drew 1-1 with Beauy back in Round 3) in yet
another vital match. Only one change was made to the starting XI
with Giacomo playing his last game of the season last week (due to
going overseas to
Italy
) and Gibbo coming
into the starting line up. The team line up was as follows: Tyler
(GK), Winny (RB), Wayne (CB), Ammar (CB), Michael (LB), Daniel (LM),
Johnno (DM), Ross (DM), Gibbo (RM), Binny (CF) & Degsy (CF). The
conditions for the match were not great with Beaumaris' home pitch
quite bumpy making it difficult to play flowing football. Bayside
had a similar looking line up to last time around with 3 ex-Waverley
Wanderers players in their line up.
The match was a scrappy
affair from the outset and did not improve in quality throughout the
90 minutes. With both sides realising the importance of the match
and conditions not being ideal both sides made plenty of mistakes
during the first half and the long ball was utilised quite often by
both teams. Neither side took control of the midfield with the final
ball often being over hit or straight to an opposition player making
it one of less attractive matches to watch for supporters. Early on
Bayside had a chance to take the lead after an error in defence
gifted them an opportunity but luck was on Beauy's side as the shot
smashed in the post with
Tyler
being beaten. Beauy's
pressure was excellent as in recent matches and Daniel in particular
stood out in this area. Beaumaris scored the first goal of the
game through Daniel after he converted from 2 metres after an
excellent cross from Winny after Gibbo did some good lead up
work for the goal. It was a vital goal in the context of the match.
There were only a couple of half chances for both teams up to half
time and Beaumaris led 1-0 at the break.
Coach Bob Shields
stressed the importance of starting the 2nd half well during
his half time team talk and he would have been happy to see
Beaumaris starting the half well. In fact Beauy enjoyed their best
period of the match with the midfield starting to work well together
and the defence holding firm. Captain Ross Iles scored yet another
captain's goal, his 5th of the season, with a neat volley around 15
minutes into the 2nd half. This goal was one of the rare highlights
of the match with Winny and Gibbo once again involved in
the build up to the goal. Being 2-0 up looked like a
comfortable situation for Beaumaris, however the team seemed to take
the foot off the pedal with Bayside sensing they were still a chance
to get something from the match. Bayside then scored after the
ball was lost in defence, with a through ball being well controlled
by their striker who then lobbed Tyler with Wayne agonisingly unable
to clear the ball off the line running back. With the score at 2-1
Bayside really lifted and all the momentum was with them. Beaumaris
were hanging on and clearing the ball at every opportunity. With
around 5 minutes to go the referee spotted a handball in Beaumaris'
defensive box and a penalty was awarded to Bayside! The tall
striker, who had only scored moments before, decided to go straight
down the middle and although Tyler was diving to his right he still
managed to make an absolutely brilliant save with his foot with Ross
clearing the rebound! Bayside had a couple more chances to equalise
but Beauy were a very relieved and happy team to hear the final
whistle blow earning another valuable 3 points.
Round 12 (vs Keilor)
Beaumaris were up against a completely different
Keilor side in Round 12 compared to earlier in the season. Keilor were
undefeated in their last 7 games prior to visiting Beauy including victories
over Old Carey and Bayside since changing their coach early in the season. Last
time around Beaumaris completely outplayed Keilor with a huge 5-3 victory
although the team knew it would be different this time. It was exciting to see
captain Ross Iles back into the starting line up after returning from his trip
in Canada whilst Giacomo was out of the side due to his red card in the
previous match against Endeavour. Marcus was also playing up front with Binny.
Other than that the line up remained the same although a couple of positional
changes were made to the side.
It was yet another physical contest with both sides
going in hard from the outset. The referee did not want to stamp his authority
on the match early on when a couple of yellow cards were warranted and as a
result the game turned into an ugly affair with Keilor in particular making a
number of awful tackles throughout the match which were not punished. Beaumaris
came flying out of the blocks and took a deserved 1-0 lead after a nice flowing
move with Michael scoring his 3rd goal of the season. Beaumaris
created a number of chances early on and should have been 2-0 up after 20
minutes but were guilty of missing some very good chances. Keilor were also
dangerous (particularly their no.8) in patches and equalised shortly before the
break with a well taken goal after a ball was sent through on the right hand
side and the Keilor striker managed to shrug off Nick to fire home. It was yet
again another frustrating day for the home side as two clear penalties were not
given to Beauy in the first half - one for a blatant pull in the box and the
second one even worse when centre back, Wayne, was chopped down from behind in
the box when controlling the ball from an incoming corner. The score at half
time was 1-1 but Beaumaris looked well on top and more likely to score.
The 2nd half was an arm wrestle and once again
Beaumaris created the better chances but could not score the decisive goal with
Daniel having his one on one saved by the keeper and Michael then heading over
from a good chance. Unfortunately not the 3 points Beaumaris were after but the
fight, determination and spirit was evident throughout the match and something
which can be built on for the upcoming matches. Next week Beauy are up against
Old Carey which promises to be a big match and one of the most important in
terms of shaping the season.
Round 11
Beaumaris lost their 4th match at home this
season against a very aggressive Endeavour Hills side to continue their poor
home record. It was a massive opportunity lost as the other top 4 sides all
dropped points although at one stage it was looking positive for Beauy. Left
back Erdem was once again injured which meant Winny came back into the side for
his 2nd match to replace him whilst Daniel was
back from suspension with Carson being the unlucky one to miss out. The match
was a fiery affair with Endeavour Hills looking to intimidate the young
Beaumaris team often provocating them by verbal and physical means behind play.
Nevertheless Beaumaris seemed to handle this quite well and maintained their
cool to play the better football in the first half creating the better chances.
However they were unable to capitalise on these chances as the Endeavour keeper
made a number of fine saves. At half time the score was 0-0 but Beauy were
confident at the break.
The 2nd half was once again a bit of a
nightmare for Beaumaris despite the situation looking good half way through the
half. Giacomo scored a magnificent goal with a long range shot curling into the
top left hand corner of the net to put Beauy up 1-0 with 25 minutes to play.
Victory looked very likely once an Endeavour Hills defender was sent off for a
second yellow card for verbally abusing the ref. However with 20 minutes to
play Beaumaris was stunned when an innocuous looking free kick was sent into
the box only for centre back Wayne to accidently head into his own net looping
over goal keeper Tyler who could do nothing about it. At 1-1 Endeavour seemed
to gain some momentum sensing a win and the game opened up quite a bit at this
stage. An incident then occurred behind play which resulted in a scuffle
between both sides resulting in the Endeavour goal keeper being sent off for
head butting Giacomo whilst Giacomo was also sent off for his involvement in
the fight. This seemed to unsettle Beaumaris more and Endeavour got the winning
goal after a through ball split the Beauy defence and the Endeavour striker
managed to find the net with a low hard shot into the bottom left hand corner.
A clear penalty was then not awarded to Beaumaris as substitute Degsy was
clearly chopped down in the area with 5 minutes to go. This loss was a bitter
blow to Beauy's promotion chances despite other results going Beauy's way.
Beaumaris will need to have a very good 2nd half
of the season to have any chance now of finishing in the top 2. Next week
Beaumaris are up against an in form Keilor side at home but will be looking
forward to having captain Ross back for this match.
Round 10
Beaumaris SC made the long trip to the other side of Melbourne (Eltham) to
take on bottom placed Eltham North in a vital Round 10 encounter. All previous
reports were correct in stating that the Eltham pitch was terrible - it was
uneven, patchy and had a cricket pitch where most of the play would take place
in the middle of the pitch! Beauy's line up once again changed slightly, not
surprisingly, after last week's shock loss to the Warriors. Wayne was back into
the starting line up slotting in at right back, Michael was moved from sweeper
to left midfield, Johnno was shifted from midfield to centre back along side
Ammar, Gibbo was re-instated to the starting line up in midfield, and Giacomo
was back up front along side Binny. Mark and Winny were the unlucky ones to
miss out for this match. The bench was looking extremely strong with Marcus,
Degsy and Travis all waiting for an opportunity.
Eltham came out strongly and looked determine to win their 2nd
game of the season whilst Beauy started slowly and were second to the ball
throughout the half. In fact it was quite fortunate that Beauy managed to go
into half time not conceding a goal as Eltham had the better chances and had
more control of midfield. Beaumaris were making uncharacteristic mistakes
particularly in midfield often turning the ball over and the defence was
hanging on with Tyler having an excellent game in goal. Binny had two good
chances in the first half - the first after a magnificent long ball from Gibbo
found him with only the keeper to beat but he did not connect cleanly with his
header whilst he mis-kicked the ball when inside the Eltham box soon after.
Coach Bob Shields was not impressed at half time by the overall performance and
accordingly addressed a few issues at half time. Wayne was then switched to
centre back whilst Johnno was moved to right back and Binny was moved back to
midfield.
The 2nd half was a much better one for
Beaumaris. The team looked a lot livelier and the fitness work done during the
week seemed to reap rewards for the team. The players looked much hungrier for
the ball and both Nick and Giacomo lifted in the 2nd
half along with most of the other players. Eltham on the other hand started to
struggle in midfield once their main midfielder (no.9) was shut down by Nick.
Playing long balls was their main form of attack whilst Beauy started to play
their passing game quite nicely with Michael doing well when moved to right
back and subs Travis and Marcus looking lively when coming on. The only goal of
the game came via a corner - Erdem delivered a dangerous cross which Ammar
headed powerfully into the back of net. Eltham then caught Beauy napping and
were very unlucky not to score when their striker hit a good low shot past
Tyler at the front post but the inside of the post saved the day! The rebound
also thankfully fell to a Beaumaris defender and on any other day it could have
landed at the other striker's feet which was just the luck Beauy needed. Soon
after Travis nearly scored a 2nd when a
thumping drive hit the top corner of the crossbar/post whilst Marcus couldn't
quite score when one on one with the Eltham keeper. A third sub was then made
with Degsy coming on to provide some much needed experience and composure as
Beaumaris ran out 1-0 winners! Beaumaris have another crucial match against
Endeavour Hills this week in Round 11.
Dandenong Worriors vs Beaumaris SC
Beaumaris were keen to improve their average record at home but
it was to be a miserable afternoon against the Dandenong Warriors in Round 9.
Once again there were a few changes to the starting line-up with captain Ross
Iles missing the next 3 weeks (due to going to Canada) and Giacomo starting on
the bench due to missing both training sessions during the week. Carson came
into the starting line-up for his game for the seniors along with Winny who was
also making his debut. Centre back Wayne was once again missing due to a
migraine (although he was on the bench) and striker Daniel was still suspended
after his red card a couple of weeks ago. The game started in an open fashion
with both sides attacking from the start. The Warriors strikers were causing
the Beaumaris defence problems with their pace whilst Beauy was moving the ball
around in their familiar fashion with Nick (playing centre midfield) looking
lively early on and Carson and Binny looking dangerous up forward. However
surprisingly it was the Warriors who opened the scoring after breaking down the
right wing, sending a cross in for their striker to head home. Beauy were shell
shocked soon after when a similar break down the right wing resulted in a 2nd
goal, this time from a shot inside the box to send the Warriors 2-0 up.
Beaumaris were quite ordinary in the first 25-30 mins but finally picked up
their game in the final 15 minutes of the half resulting in 2 good goals. Once
was from a result of a strange decision to reward an indirect free kick inside
the area (after only minutes earlier awarding a similar free kick at the
opposite end) and Erdem dispatched it beautifully into the bottom left hand
corner with a curling accurate free kick. Johnno scored with a nice low shot
inside the box shortly afterwards to give Beauy all the momentum heading into
half time at 2-2. Once again a terrible decision early in the 2nd half resulted
in the game changing. After a bit of a goal mouth scramble goal keeper Tyler
gathered the ball on the line which clearly did not go in. However, the referee
decided to award it anyway from more than 30 metres away and it was yet another
cruel blow to the Beaumaris side which has not had too much luck this year
refs. After this incident Beauy dominated the midfield and were well on top of
a tiring Warriors side. However a quick counter attack led to a 4th Warriors
goal much to the frustration of the players and Beauy were now 2-4 down. Ammar
managed to pull one back with a glancing header from an excellent Gibbo cross
but it was not enough as the Warriors defended deep and Beaumaris missed
further chances. It was a hard loss to take but the young players should learn
a couple of vital lessons from this match - never underestimate your opponent
and the need to concentrate for the full 90 minutes. Next week Beaumaris will
be looking to bounce back against Eltham away.
Uni of Melbourne 0-2 Beaumaris SC
Beaumaris travelled to Princess Park for a vital round 8
match against the Uni of Melbourne and knew it would not be an easy task as Uni
of Melbourne defeated Noble Park 1-0 in the previous round. After the
capitulation in the 2nd half against Dandenong City last week the Beaumaris
players were keen to make up for it and to play the full 90 minutes this time
around. The starting line up changed once again from the previous week with
Erdem and youngster Travis back into the starting line-up after recovering from
injury whilst Mark was making his debut for the seniors. Centre back Wayne was
out for this match along with Marcus and Daniel of course was not eligible to
play due to his red card the previous week.
Beauie started the match well and gained the early ascendency in midfield due
mainly to captain Ross Illes who set himself for a huge match - his last before
travelling to Canada and being unavailable for the next 3 matches. Jonathon
also continued with his good form from the 1st half last week battling well for
the ball whilst the defence was solid with Mark winning everything on the right
hand side, Erdem looking very solid at left back and Michael doing a great job
as sweeper. However the highlight was the work rate of the two up front - Binny
and Giacomo who were constantly chasing everything and putting a massive amount
of pressure on the Uni of Melbourne defence. The first goal of the game came
from Ross who picked up a loose ball on the edge of the 18 yard box and rifled
a low hard shot across goal which nestled nicely into the bottom right hand
corner of the net. Uni of Melbourne didn't create too many opportunities
although on one occasion Tyler did well to come off his line and clear a
dangerous looking situation. At half time Beauie was up 1-0 as they were last
week but this time were very focused for the 2nd half.
The 2nd half was not pretty and in fact Beauie did not really play the football
which is making it such a dangerous opponent this year. Uni of Melbourne was
desperate to get back in the game and threw players forward searching for a
goal whilst Beaumaris did well to hold firm. Once again the defence did a good
job to snuff out any danger. Experienced super sub, Degsy, was then introduced
with immediate impact as he finished off a good move with a great diving header
to make the game secure for Beaumaris to the delight of the other players and
supporters. Shortly afterwards he could have added a third but was very unlucky
as this time his skilfully executed lob grazed the cross bar. From here the
game petered out as Beaumaris was content to hold onto an important 2-0 win.
Next week Beauie are back at home against the emerging Dandenong Warriors.
Cheers,
Degs
Beauy win thriller!
Inspired by another stellar performance by our
rampant reserves, Beauy raced to a 3-0 lead,
but gutsy Brighton bounced back with two goals
that gave Beaumaris a very anxious start to the second half.

Stung by the defeat at the hands of Noble Park
in the previous weeks match,Beaumaris began the game firing on all cylinders. Weaving
intricate patterns they mesmerised Brighton with beautiful 'diamonds' and 'triangle' shape
passing movements and In one period of possession no less than 21 touches involving 7 players
bought gasps of delight from the Beaumaris faithful.
Forced to make major changes again this week,
it is testament to our depth and talent that
even with 3 new players in the line-up our
style of play was not interrupted. John Pappas must
take kudos for his commitment to preparing the
players to take the step up.
The breakthrough came early when from Giacomo's
vicious low cross, the ball took a deflection and arced towards the far side of the
goalmouth. With his back to the goal, Binny Shields hit an audacious overhead volley high into the roof of
the net.
1-0. This was a goal no-one would deny Binny as he has worked tirelessly
throughout the season. Minutes later, before the
Brighton team had the opportunity to catch
their collective breath, Beaumaris had the ball in
the back of the net again. Having worked the
ball into the Brighton penalty area, a goalmouth melee ensued and with the ball bouncing from
player to player like a pinball game, Giacomo finally got the decisive touch, but it cannoned
off a Brighton player and into the net.
Giacomo deserved the goal and was most peeved,
evident by his wonderful display of latin gestures, that the ref had awarded an own
goal.
2-0.
Ross and Gibbo were superb as they pulled the
strings in midfield, probing the visitors relentlessly and it seemed only a matter of time
before we would breach the Brighton defence. Then from a fine through ball from
Gibbo that clinically dissected Brighton's rear guard, Binny Shieldstimed his run to perfection, outpaced the hapless
defence and tucked the ball in the net leaving the advancing keeper stranded.
Half-time 3-0.
Beaumaris knew they faced a torrid opening
phase to the second half, but no-one expected Brighton to come at them with such
determination and ferocity. Brighton wanted the ball more
than Beauy and were a metre faster. Whereas the
first half saw them chasing shadows, now Brighton were forcing mistakes and turnovers as
Beauy's game lost its sparkle. The ressure told and Brighton were rewarded with goals in
quick succession as they clawed their way back into the game and make the score 3-2.
Daniel and Ross were both forced to leave the
field because of injuries sustained in tough tackles, but the introduction of fresh legs in
the shape of Tom Cannon and Jono Bratt settled Beauy and they began to play as a team
once more. Giacomo went up front with Binny and pressured every defender. Gradually
our defence took control with Wayne and Ammar winning everything through the middle.
When Erdem, who had a wonderful return to the first team put through a defence
splitting ball on the left, Tom Cannon raced onto it and from 30metres out blasted the ball into the
net.
4-2.
Peter Grygorczyk came on for Gibbo and proved
what a talent he is for the future as he took over from Michael in defence. Michael
moved into midfield and linked up beautifully with Jono as Beauy played out the game as they
began it, with a now dejected and frustrated Brighton down to 9 men after 2 red cards.
This was a very good win over a very determined
and fit team, but our boy's strict adherence to their game once more proved fruitful and
they ran out deserved winners.
Beauy 'bow' to Noble Park

Park showed their intentions as a championship contender when they took

After an impressive win against Keilor Wolves
in the mid-week fixture, Beaumaris were eager to impress against a
handy Noble Park side. With a long list of injuries
Beaumaris had to test the team's depth, but the changes brought
about an almost seamless change to their playing style as they
produced some delightful exchanges during the initial phase of the
game. Our mid-fielders probed to find a weakness, and the break came
as Tom Cannon, on debut, beat the fullback to a Gibbo
through ball and unleashed an angled shot that rocketted across the
goal mouth and into the top right hand corner. 1-0.
Alas,
as so often happens, we gave up our advantage soon after when poor defensive
coverage allowed Noble Park to get in behind us to equalise. 1-1.
Previously
this reversal would have triggered a period of panic, with our passing game
deteriorating into a long ball game in order to gain territorial advantage, but
such is the experience and discipline gained by our young team, that they
continued to play composed possession football, reducing Noble Park to hefty
clearances out of defence. We created numerous opportunities to take the lead,
and I may say, the boys were not shy about having a shot, but to no avail.
These
missed opportunities came back too bite us in that critical period just before
half-time.
With
our team committed in attack, a desperate clearance from Noble Park found their
striker in an offside position. Despite appeals from our flat-footed defence,
the referee ignored the appeals leaving only Ammar to cover the breakaway and
having exposed us Noble Park
converted
and made us pay. 1-2.
Early
in the second half Noble Park went further ahead when a communication error
between Tyler and his defence resulted in the ball breaking
free for the striker to score his second of the match and put us deep in the
'poo'. 1-3.
With their tales up now, a rocket shot from Noble Park was partially parried, Tyler's god
was with him as the follow up striker ballooned the loose ball over the bar
from 5 metres with the goal at his mercy.
With
our defence in disarray a change was needed, and Erdem came on with Pete also
moving into the back line. Andy Walker came on for Binny and Michael filled the
holding midfield role. The changes seemed to steady the team and Beauy began to
impose themselves.
Gibbo
grew in statue as he put a voice to his creative role, demanding we raise our
game a level and leading by example. Marcus
weaved and wriggled his way into the penalty area to no avail, always met by a
wall of red shirts as Noble Pk defended in numbers.
The last 20 minutes saw Beaumaris in total
command but the Noble Park goal had a charmed life.
Eventually after a spate of corners we broke through when in
a goal mouth scramble Michael Runnalls poked the ball home to make it 2-3. The
visitors did all they could to run down the clock with the boys
pressing continuously, but time ran out for them.
It
would seem incongruous to congratulate the team on their performance when they
lost but their work rate and dedication to playing quality football never
diminished. Once we have ironed-out the defensive errors we will definitely be

A
word of thanks to our wonderful crowd who despite a soaking, braved the rain to
cheer us on. Have patience and I am sure we will give you a lot to cheer about
during the season.
