The Prez in action
As the soccer juggernaut continues to roll on in Australia, the growth of the sport is now clearly evident at all levels. We at Beaumaris Soccer Club, are part of this amazing growth of the world game.
Beaumaris Soccer Club has had to apply an off-field strategy as well, in order to keep up with the local interest in soccer. Between the years of 2004 and 2008, participation in the sport has grown by 43% in the Bayside region. In order to harness this opportunity, the Club has garnered the services of some big-time players.
The squad includes the Bayside Council, the City of Kingston, Sport and Recreation Victoria and the Football Federation Victoria. With funding and support coming from the state Government and the Football Federation of Victoria, this all-star team plan to implement the Regional Soccer Strategy in the heart of Bayside.
As the popularity of the game grows, local councils have to deal with totally new issues within the sport, suitable playing surfaces being a major one.
Bayside Council has been magnificent in this respect. We've been awarded a Government grant to develop a new pitch at Sandringham Secondary College on Reserve Road. Work has commenced and will be complete for the 2010 season.
When a club is developing and succeeding off the pitch, it helps when they have success on the pitch. This year, the Beaumaris Senior Men's team won their division, and were promoted to the Provisional League.
It's been an incredibly productive year at Beaumaris Soccer Club in 2009. We're really looking forward to another incredibly successful season in 2010.
