Mantarays Match report 18th  June 2011

Away to Elwood

The Mantarays played Elwood at their home ground on Saturday.
Trenton was chosen as captain and showed great leadership skills.
Two early goals by Elwood fired the boys on. They responded with brilliant defending. Scott was a stand out not favoring either foot he managed to out maneuver his opponents.

Quince saved a couple and let a couple through always on his toes. Second half saw a change of keeper in Tom , he aggressively  through himself into play as he always does ,almost making it impossible  for Elwood to score. Darcy scored two spectacular goals assisted by the outstanding running and passing effects of Carl, James and Mena. Zac Aris and  Hugo were totally focused and played key roles making the mantarays looking like a formidable force.

Unfortunately in the final few minutes Elwood scored a goal. 2/3 to Elwood. Our Coach reflected that although this was a loss the team can stand tall. The Mantarays had shown true team spirit, hard work and most importantly had fun. We look forward to Will being back with us next week.

Mantarays Match report 11th  June 2011

Against Sandringham SC

Well the Mantarays were back on home soil this week against Sandringham.

Sandingham went one up in the first minute of the game curiosity of a unbelievable goal that saw the ball take a deflection off a Beauy player onto the woodwork of the goal and then a deflection off the goalie. All players and spectators from both sides all looked at each other in amazement wondering at what had just happened.

After this cosmic irregularity both teams played an attacking style of soccer that had everyone watching gasping at the determination and brilliance of both sides.

The Beauy goalkeeper produced outstanding saves that had Sandringham wondering what they had to do to score.

Beauy’s teamwork shone through once again and they went into the half time break 3 goals to 2 in front.

The second half had Sandringham come from behind and score early which made Beauy step up a gear and restore the lead. Persistent attack from both teams and solid defending made for a tight game that had either team capable of snatching a goal.

Sandringham scored late in the half to level the scores. Attack after attack from Beauy had Sandingham rattled and Beauy were unlucky not to be in front again as they deserved to be.

With the final whistle poised in the referees mouth for full time, Sandringham had the last kick of the game which saw the ball end up in the back of the Beauy goal to give Sandringham a 5 goal to 4 goal lead.

A disappointing outcome for the Beauy boys as they had the measure of the Sandringham team.

This will not affect their performance at all in future games, it will only make them more determined to get back on the winning sheet.

Go the Mantarays.

Mantarays Match report 4th June 2011

It was a fine day for the match and we had an enthusiastic team turn up.  With only 10 players on a big pitch, the boys were in for a bit of running.  We showed some determination early on and a great display of defence, but still had 3 unlucky goals against in first half.

After some oranges to replenish the energy levels, the team came out firing in the second half with a goal by Darcy and a close shot by team captain for the day Carl.  Aggressive defence from the boys kept it close but we did have another 2 more goals scored against us.

A disappointing result for the boys, but a strong effort by all against a tough team.  Special mention to Scott who was awarded the teamwork award for his excellent defence, Trenton who was awarded best player award for his ferocious tackles & Carl who was awarded the La Porchetta award for his leadership in captaining the team.

Better luck next week - Go the Mantarays!

Mantarays Match Report 28 May 2011

The Mantarays were back on home turf this weekend playing Glen Eira Junior FC. After rain all week the ground was in surprisingly good condition.

Glen Eira attacked straight from the whistle and had Beauy on the back foot.

With Beauy at sixes and sevens Glen Eria capitalised on their explosive start and scored twice in quick succession.

The Beauy players were not rattled by this and stood tall. They composed themselves in a manner not seen by many mature teams and showed their resolve and came to the fore.

With great teamwork and commitment, Beauy hit back with two quick goals of their own.

This knocked Glen Eira and mentally harmed their early confidence.

A goal just before the half time whistle saw Beauy go into the break 3 – 2 up.

Scoring a goal early in the second half had Beauy in a comfortable position.

Glen Eira however sensed a drop in the tempo of Beauy and snatched a well-deserved goal to keep themselves in the game. This awakened the competitive nature of the Beauy team who again scored to give themselves the comfort zone they deserved.

Glen Eira showed their fighting spirit and launched attack, after attack at the Beauy goal. They were rewarded, but once again Beauy hit back themselves to lead 5 – 4.

Both teams gave no quarter throughout the whole game in their endeavours of defence and attack, coupled with solid tackling and commitment in front of goal. The professionalism of the referee allowed both teams to showcase their wonderful talents.

A hard fought late goal by Beauy saw them emerge the rightful winning side of a game that was both tough mentally and physically.

Final score Beaumaris 6 – Glen Eira 4.

If Beauy Mantarays continue to show their “never say die” attitude with their unselfish team play and their own individual skills and brilliance, they are more than a team deserving of their winning way.

Today showed a team who believe in themselves and are big enough to listen to their coach and adapt accordingly to the team they are playing.

THE MIGHTY MANTARAYS PLAY HAMPTON JUNIOR FC

AT CHELTENHAM PARK

ROUND 4 – 21 May 2011

We arrived to play Hampton greeted by a beautiful autumn morning, perfect for a game of soccer.

Both teams didn’t disappoint the spectators at all.

Hampton were on the attack early in the first half not allowing Beauy to find their rhythm.

After the early onslaught and outstanding defending by Beauy along side a brilliant goal keeping performance by Quincy the tide turned in our favour. A great strikers effort by Darcy saw us go ONE nil up. A brilliantly executed turn in front of the Hampton goal in heavy traffic by Will saw Beauy unlucky not to score again.

This was closely followed by unselfish team play, which finished with Darcy putting a beautiful ball through to Zac, and Beauy heading into the break TWO nil up.

After the break Beauy came out all guns blazing attacking the Hampton goal relentlessly. The Hampton keeper kept his team in the game with some outstanding saves. Hanging in the game Hampton then went on the attack, which saw the Beauy defence come to the fore once again. After repeated advances from Hampton and an incredibly long half Hampton took the TWO chances they had and scored well in quick succession.

Beauy’s outstanding goalkeeper Quincy aided by the defence of Tom, Hugo and Aris was solid and strong.

Complimented by a hard working midfield of Trenton, Darcy, Carl, Scott, Will and James along with a potent strike force of Mina and Zac, Hampton were lucky to come away sharing the points of a great tussle between two highly competitive teams which consisted of players who emphasised the true meaning of a team game.

I’m sure all parents and spectators can not wait for next weeks challenge.

Go the Mightly Mantarays!!!!
